Hello everyone, welcome to my brand spankin' new blog! I've been thinking of a way to introduce myself and then I came across this awesome tumblr called andthatswhoiam, which is basically a website filled to the brim with images and quotes you can identify with. I thought it would be cool to share ten facts about me with you, so that you can get to know me a little bit!
Yup, I'm a Dutchie born and bred, although I'm living in the UK at the moment because of reasons like falling hopelessly in love with a Welshman and wanting to be together forever. I do sometimes really miss the Netherlands though, and frequently come back to see my family and friends and enjoy the ever so flat landscape that is unique to my country. I also want to point out that English isn't my first language and that I'm still learning, so if you spot any mistakes don't hesitate to point them out to me. It's the only way I'll get better!
I started off not so much playing, but watching how my cousin played his video games. It was like interactive television for me, and I fell absolutely in love with the concept. When I was about ten years old, I could finally afford my own console -a second hand Playstation had never looked more beautiful- and the passion never stopped. This is also why I'm currently studying games design, I'm forever fascinated with how games are made and how people perceive them, it's one of my greatest passions. A few of my all time favourites are Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Left For Dead 2, the heartbreakingly beautiful Journey and Walking Dead: The Game.
Which brings us to this next fact, I love to draw! But I especially love to draw stuff for games, that's also the reason why I specialise in game art and concepting when it comes to coursework. I wouldn't say that I'm a great artist or anything, but I certainly do enjoy it and it's a thing I hope to become really good at. To me, doing makeup is a lot like drawing as well, which is perhaps why I enjoy everything regarding beauty so much. Video games, beauty and drawing are definitely my three greatest passions!
I'm really super vampiric pale, I am pasty enough where strangers ask me if I'm feeling okay, which used to upset me a bit, but now I just think it's funny. I used to not like being pale at all, everyone would have these lovely bronzed complexions in the summer whereas I would stay light-reflectingly white. I don't mind so much anymore though, it's become yet another thing that just makes me who I am. The only annoying thing about it is people making remarks about my paleness and that I can't seem to find a foundation in my shade anywhere. Asian BB creams are a godsend to me!
I do get overexcited about birthdays, and not just my own. When I grew up, my mum always really liked to make a big fuss over our birthdays. Decorating the whole house with balloons and slings and whatnot, waking us up with breakfast in bed and banging on pots and pans, the whole shebang! Because I grew up with this, every birthday was amazingly special to me and so I want to make all the people I love feel special in return. I love shopping for presents, baking cakes and making people feel special and lovely on their birthdays and other special occasions. It's half the reason why I'm always broke!
A bit too nice sometimes, although I can be firm if I have to. Basically, I like to treat people the way I want to be treated myself, so I'm always nice to people whenever I can be. It's quite hard to upset or anger me, although I tend to be completely finished with people when they have managed to. All in all, I believe that people are inherently good, so until someone's done me wrong I'm always nice and polite. A bit awkward perhaps -I'm a tad shy- but I'd like to think that I'm generally quite pleasant.
Never, ever, ever! Being a grown up is all well and good, but I don't think I'll get rid of my childish tendencies for quite a while. I will forever love Disney, Dreamworks and Pixar animation movies. I will always dance in the rain, I won't ever stop being silly and childish just for a laugh. I still buy -and read!- books made for children, I just love the pictures in them. In some things I'm a lot more mature than other people my age, but I'm incredibly child like in other aspects. I still love balloons, I always have to touch everything in any store, I want to try on and use everything I buy immediatly and I'm forever utterly fascinated by anything and everything. I am a huge child, and I love it.
I think this is one of the things that really defines me, I really do see beauty everywhere. I always see it in the people I know, even if they don't see it themselves. When I walk down the street, I notice so many little things that inspire me. It could be something very little like the light catching something just right, which illuminates the object in such a way that it leaves me breathless. It's not just about the stuff that I see though, it's also the music I hear, the things I read and the feelings I feel. Beauty is everywhere, and I often wish people weren't being so hasty all the time so that they could see it too.
I'm fabulous! You are fabulous! We are all fabulous!
I hope you enjoyed this introduction post and getting to know me a little bit, let me know what makes you who you are. What is it that defines you most, what is your centre? Let me know, so I can get to know you too!
